WARNING: Whining to follow..
Monday Makenna was a little bit fussy which is not normal for her. I went to the gym Monday night for about an hour and a half and when I got home, Collin told me she had been crying the whole time I was gone. She had been spitting up A LOT the last several days, but I didn't think it was anything to worry about, until Monday night I noticed that there was little specs of red in her diaper. They continued through the night and into Tuesday morning. So, I called the DOC. I took her in, and after being examined the doctor told me she thought Makenna was allergic to milk. What she tells me next, I was not prepared to hear. If I want to continue nursing (which I absolutely do), I have to start a NO DAIRY diet. Meaning....pretty much ALL my favorite foods fly out the window. I can't eat ANYTHING with Milk products in it. Say goodbye to pizza, my nightly hot cocoa, chocolate, CHEESE, ice cream, doritos, soups, cream cheese, cream sauces...you name it, nada. I know I am being a big ol' baby, but COME ON! I spent all day today reading labels in my pantry...you would be amazed at some of the things that have dairy in them that you wouldn't guess. Anyway...I have to look at a whole new diet and a serious lifestyle change. I will do what I have to do for her health, but I am still holding out hope that it could possibly be something else and I will only have to do this for a few weeks....cross your fingers!

Mandi that REALLY stinks!! We drink 8 gallons of milk a week, let alone other dairy products. You are a tough momma to give it a go! Good for you.
Doritos? I wouldn't have thought of those. Good heavens! I know if I were on that diet, I'd lose a lot of weight! hmmm, maybe I should consider it for the heck of it... haha. I WILL cross my fingers for you. It's not the worst thing in the world, but I'd be whining too!
Oh man! At least you figured it out. So, can you use Soy? I will admit, I love the soy milk from Costco. Love, Cam
That happened to me with Will! 8th Continent is the best soy milk out there. The chocolate is really yummy too. It stinks but trust me it was worth it too!
Hang in there! I am already crossing my fingers for you, and the pound cake will be in the freezer until you're ready for it!!
no fair! Evan and Vienna were both allergic to milk. But we never had any problemswith nursing just when we switched them to cows milk at an older age. but my kids were just allergic to the protien in milk. I guess she must be more lactose intlerant or something. With Seger I just can't have banana's.
I feel for you! I would not want to live dairy free. So complain away!
You might want to find out if she has a gluten allergy. A friend of mine had this problem with her baby and found out much later that he was actually allergic to gluten (which eliminates all wheat from your diet). Also a big pain. However, they can test her stools for the gluten intolerance (I think).
My friends baby had that and the good news is, he grew out of it! Hopefully MaKenna will too. Thats aweful though, hopefully she was miss diagnosed!
I lurk on your blog every so often, I actually went to High school with collin, But my darling girl had the same issue, and i couldn't have dairy, but she grew out of it about 6 months, and it wasn't always everything with milk in it, it was pretty much just the actual dairy products, so like the doritos were fine, and most of the cream soups that I cooked with didn't bother her either. And I actually read that 80 % of babies have the issue with milk products, because our bodies were not built to break it down, so it has to build up a tolerance to it, which is why babies sometimes have an issue. So hopefully it will get better for you, just a warning though, after you have been off of dairy for awhile you have to add it back slowly to your diet or it will make you sick! Good Luck, and hopefully it will get better!

I'm sorry Mandi...a life without cheese is sad. But....soy milk is delicious too. :) Yeah...good luck with that!! :) I'm sure you can do it!!
I'm so sorry to hear that Mandi!!! I hope everything turns out for the best. I have a friend who's little girl is allergic to milk as well. If she even gets near it she gets this nasty cough. Poor little girl! Good luck though and we will be praying for you! -Nati
Oh I would be whining too! How awful! Good luck with that. When are you coming out here? I would love to see you when you are here. :)
About the gluten thing...I pray it is milk. When they thought that Liz had a wheat issue we looked into it, and I promise you it is WAY worse! Tom says "orange juice on Cheerios is yummy..." (Sounds nasty to me, but that's what he had to eat when he was little b/c of a milk allergy.)
You'll be fine, It does suck but just think, if she does have a milk allergy it could be her whole life... That would suck. But she'll probably grow out of it as she gets older if you can control it now. (If you need help I grew up with 2 brothers that have sever allergy's to every thingso just call me)-n
Oh darn! I would die, that's all I eat! It's a good, forceful, diet though and almost every girl dreams of that! haha
I can't stop looking at your pictures of your cute babies... love love love them. And the G-ma and G-pa stuff is priceless. Man, it really is too bad that you have such a photogenic family....:)
Oh, that is so frustrating! I hope she doesn't have a milk allergy. She is absolutely beautiful though.
what is the latest? have you found anything out yet? we all would love to come to the baby blessings. just let us know when & where. dave & my mom are planning on going as well. it will be fun to see everyone plus all the new little ones. :)
